Video of Eudora Marathon Club.

Our Thanksgiving Day Run proceeds benefits many of the elementary school marathon clubs and programs in Lawrence and Eudora. Here's an example how one of the programs is doing.

From Barbara Hartwell, Eudora: Our running program is going great! We have 263 signed up and running at three sites in our district. Our numbers are down a little, but we are still thrilled that so many kids are challenging themselves. The weather hasn't been wonderful, but we've logged almost 2,000 miles so far and should be rewarding our first full marathon completer the week after next!

I'm also excited because our cross country teams at the middle school and high school are recording amazing results and many of those kids started in our program years ago! We are planning on having our high school teams come to one of our marathon days, talk to the kids about how marathon club positively affected them and encourage them to set goals and push themselves each week to go a little farther, lead stretches and run with our kids! It's wonderful!

So your entry to our run does help a lot of kids. Sign up today to run or to volunteer.

For many years the Mad Dogs and Englishmen, the KU Faculty running group has met every fall to do a predicted run, the John Bunce Memorial Run. Winners (closest to their predicted time) are awarded the "fastest is not always the best" T-shirt. This year's winner was Bill Reetz.

2018 was also the Grand Reunion of the Mad Dogs and this may be the last run after 35 years. Jerry Jost recorded the last picture show of the Mad Dogs. From the early years Englishmen, Ron Bass and Robin Davis, to all the Mad Dogs past and present who ran in the midday sun, thanks for the memories. more photos

We Slow as We Age, but May Not Need to Slow Too Much

Most of us who are older competitive runners are not able to race at anywhere near the same speed as we did when we were 30.

The new analysis, which refines famous past research by one of the scientists, finds that, although declines in running performance with age are ineluctable, they may be less steep than many of us fear. more
