Huge crowds gathered for this year's St Patrick's Day Parade again preceded by the Ad Astra Irish Mile. Winners were Jackson Thomas (Muskogee OK) and Rebeka Stowe (Lawrenceville NJ). In the age-grading results, 68 year old Dee Boeck's 7:17.7 calculated to a 4:44.1 adjusted time while 48-year old Matt Stegman's 4:52.2 translated to a 4:19.7.

The mile has forever captured the attention of track fans especially in English-speaking countries. The term milestone marked points along a road (in miles) and also means an important point in our lives. And for a long time breaking 4 minutes in the miles was considered almost untouchable. Finally on May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister set the record 3:59.4. It was the major milestone in track in the mid 50s. He died today at the age of 88.
