W.H. Auden Wrote Poetry For a Beautiful Short Film About Running - Runner is a Classic, Unsung Piece of Mid-Century Filmmaking.

In 1962, Canada’s National Film Board commissioned a first-time director to make an 11-minute, black-and-white movie about a 19-year-old distance runner who would later become an Olympian, and have legendary poet W.H. Auden—not Canadian, and not a runner—write a poem as narration. Runner has receded into the archives of film history, and that’s a shame. This is why you should care about this strange little film. more

Junw 23, 2018 Complete the Loop Run.


The walk from Sports Pavilion Lawrence passed the KU Tennis facility, turn right and the start of the Complete the Loop 2018 Run. Turnaround points at 5K ans 10K, or run all the way to the Ad Astra Running Store. Or whatever distance you wanted at this free, fun run on the Lawrence Loop trails. (J. Jenkins photo)

This morning the Sunflower Striders with the Topeka Garry Gribbles Running Sports store hosted a "As the Crow Flies Run." About 60 people ran from the store to Clarion Woods - you take your best route to there and back. Fritz Menninger offered orienteering maps as an aid for those not familiar with Topeka streets & to promote orineteering.

runLawrence will announce the recipient of the Outstanding Club Member Award at their August 5th club meeting/social at the Lawrence Visitor's Center.

This annual award will be given to a current member who has demonstarted outstanding leadership skills and has made significant contributions to the development and growth of the club's goal to provide community well-being. Nominations can be made by anyone but at least one endorsement has to come from a club member.

Deadline for nominations is due July 1st. Written nominations should be typed and sent to runlawrence@gmail.com. The club board will consider the applications at the July 1st board meeting.

Red Dog's Dog Days begins Monday, June 4th. It is a free fitness program open to all members of the Lawrence, KS community. There's no cost to participate. Simply show up for any of the scheduled workouts (M-Th, 6 am and/or 6 pm at the Haskell stadium; also Sat. at the Lied Center parking lot).. Check in each time you attend to work towards earning a t-shirt for the season (more about the shirts).  Participants need to complete 25 weekday workouts for a T-shirt or 5 Saturday runs for a Saturday T-shirt.
