Club Meeting Minutes
Sun, March 11, 2018

(approved May 6, 2018)

4:30 pm, Lawrence Public Library, Room C

Present:  Brenda Groskinsky, Gene Wee, Dee Boeck, Becky McClure, Don and Lori Cackler, Molly Wood, Ann Carlin Ozegovic, and Karen Hyde

Brenda called the meeting to order.

We reviewed the minutes from the February meeting.  Dee moved to accept the minutes as written; Ann seconded, and all agreed.

Brenda mentioned that she will write up a process for nominating club members for outstanding service to the club.  She will submit a proposal for board approval at the next club meeting.

Gene gave the treasurer’s report.  The club received $148.75 in membership dues this month and spent $9000.00 in donations to marathon clubs.  Dee passed around a letter from USD#497 acknowledging receipt of our donation.  As of March 1, the club’s balance is $19,093.74.  A full treasurer’s report can be seen on the runLawrence website in the “About us” section.

Gene, Becky and Brenda reported on their work in designing a club calendar.  Gene said that our best choice for printing the calendars is most likely VistaPrint which will charge approx. $14.00 per calendar plus shipping cost if we order 25 calendars.  The group discussed starting with an order of 25 and possibly ordering more if sales indicate an interest.  We discussed putting proposed meeting dates and local races on the calendar along with a statement encouraging users to check the runLawrence website for updates or changes.  Karen mentioned that we need to verify that we can legally print photographs of minors in the calendar.  Members agreed that the matter should be investigated, but no specific action was designated.

Brenda gave an update on news from RRCA.  RRCA will hold a coaching certification class in Lawrence.  Trail Hawks will host the event at Genesis on May 19-20.  Check the runLawrence or RRCA websites for details.  This year the RRCA National Convention is in Washington, D.C.; Brenda, Gene and Dee will attend.  It is the 60th anniversary of the organization.  Brenda will be honored for being selected as the national RRCA club president of the year, and she will give a class on how to put together strategic plans.

Gene mentioned that our club equipment will be rented out for one running event and one bike ride in the upcoming months.

In the T-day run update, Dee said that she has had difficulty contacting the art professor at Haskell and will therefore likely arrange with VanGo again this year to make the race awards.  Ad Astra will get gloves for us from either Mizuno or Saucony.

The Marathon clubs celebration is set for Tues., May 15th at South Middle School.  Check the website for updates.

There will be no April club meeting.  The next meeting will be May 6th at 4:30 in the Lawrence Public Library.

Molly moved to adjourn; Karen seconded, and all agreed.
