Christian Graham, 1st male; Emily Venters, 1st female

The runLawrence Thanksgiving Day 5K was also the RRCA Kansas State 5K Championship. Championship titles went to:

Females:
Open: Emily Venters (Lawrence)
Masters (40-49): Molly Imber (Lawrence)
Grand Masters (50-59): Kristen Wiens (Lawrence)
Senior Grand Masters (60+): Kathleen Johnson (Overland Park)

Males:
Open: Christian Graham (Lawrence)
Masters (40-49): Zdenko Duris (Lawrence)
Grand Masters (50-59): Doug Miller (Olathe)
Senior Grand Masters (60+): Brian Daldorph (Lawrence)

Graham's winning time of 15:05 breaks the event record of 15:14 set by Benson Chesang in 2011. Graham and Venters each won $250 for being first. $100 went to the best master's time (40+) by Kristen Wiens and Zdenko Duris. The prize money was offered for the first time at this event by an anonymous donor.

What is RRCA?

After our recent club Thanksgiving Day 5K, a couple age group winners expressed surprise at receiving an impressive RRCA State Champion medal in addition to the regular awards.  Turns out they did not know what RRCA stood for or anything about the organization. more

Thanks for giving your time to run in yesterday's runLawrence 5K and 1K Fun Run. Results are now posted. We're glad everyone came and and enjoyed the day like this young runner. And if you know any of our volunteers give them a big thank you for helping.

Congratulations to the prize winners: 1st female was Emily Venters (finishing in 17:19) and 1st male was Christian Graham setting a new event record of 15:05, beating the previous time of 15:14 set by Benson Chesang in 2011.

1st female master (40+) was Kristen Wiens (21:45) and 1st male master was Zdenko Duris (18:04). All for are from Lawrence. Venters is currently a student at the University of Utah.

Have you ever watched a group of exhausted runners limp across a marathon finish line and thought: Why would anyone ever do that voluntarily? Maybe it's the runner's high. more
